Bunny Buns for Easter Dinner

Happy Easter to all!

In true holiday custom,
we gathered together at the in-laws
house on Easter Sunday.  Each arriving with
the "dish to pass" , or several!

I couldn't resist trying my hand
at the cute little bunny dinner rolls
I'd seen on Pinterest.

I watched a couple of youtube videos.
There was one where the bunny ears
were cut into the ball of dough with kitchen shears,
but baked up more like kitten ears.
I decided maybe I didn't want to go that route.

I went with the one where she added
second piece of dough, sticking it onto
the ball of dough that was the bunny body.
The smaller ball of dough was flattened
into an oval and cut 1/2 way through
to form ears.

The ears were further shaped by
rolling a wooden skewer across the
middle of each ear to indent.
Eyes were marked on either side of
the face with the skewer as well.

Here they are put together and left to rise some.
I really didn't fuss excessively, some looked
better than others, I was just hoping they'd
still be recognizable after they'd increased
in size.

They are puffing up.....

The faces and ears sort of just
blended into the body, but were still
recognizable after baking.

I was happy with them.

They were dinner rolls but
with a hint of bunny.

Althooough... my nephew did say he noticed
the dinner roll he ate was oddly shaped
but just though it had gone wrong.
Then in going back taking a second look
over the whole basket he laughed and said
 "Oh, they are bunnies!"

Everyone else recognized them at first
glance and thought they were adorable.

An egg wash before baking
helped them bake up a beautiful golden color.

My mom always put a light coating
of butter on top of her freshly baked
homemade dinner rolls.

It keeps the crust soft and give a nice shine.

Each bunny buns was placed in a cupcake liner
and tucked in a basket with Easter grass
for presentation at Easter Dinner.

Enjoyed by all.

Thank you for visiting today.

Hop back soon!

Christmas Cookies....a Family Tradition..........

Growing up, my mom had the best cut-out cookie recipe....
she and my sisters and I would make and decorate cookies for every holiday......

.....I've continued this tradition with my own children.

I treasure these photos of my two oldest taken 20 years ago!!!
(My third and youngest was born 4 months later.)

I snapped these cookie pics last Christmas season..........

I usually send a tray to my husbands office.......

the neighbors next door and across the street.......

of course, Christmas with the family at Gramma's..........

My youngest daughter recently learned the flooding method of cookie decorating.....

These are her cookies.......

All packaged up for sale at the Church Bazaar last month.

These snowflake cookies were a gift from my daughter to the Grandparents last week.
I was too late in getting my camera, they'd already been wrapped.

After falling in love with some elf cookies she saw at Sweet Sugarbelle here ,

following the tutorial, my daughter made these adorable cookies,
complete with a little rosy pearl dust blush on their cheeks.......

She baked these on a stick and arranged in a cookie bouquet..........

These Rice Krispie Treat Christmas Tree Pops (on a stick) went to the Church Bazaar.......

Although they're not "cookies" I just had to share these  Reindeer Pops made from chocolate covered marshmallows with pretzel antlers.

Super Cute!.......

I saw them last year at Betty Crocker Wannabe
and knew they'd be a big hit at our Bazaar as well.

There is always a mad dash to the cookie walk and the candy room, most all of our donations were sold out in the first 20 minutes.

Wishing you happy kitchen memories with lots of lovin' from the oven this holiday season and throughout the new year,

Warm Hugs,

Sharing at..... Sew Many Ways

P.S.   I just found directions for a similar reindeer pop and can't wait to make them.....

Setting the chocolate dipped marshmallow on top of
whole pretzels until the chocolate sets would be
sooo much easier than trying to break the pretzels
evenly and then trying to insert into the marshmallow.

Turkey Feed......

For today's Tea Party, I've prepared  a version one of my favorite munchy snacks... cereal mix. Cereal mix, like trail mix, is something that's easy to take an ocassional quick little nibble of while I'm working to give me that mid-morning or mid-afternoon pick-me-up when I can't leave the desk. Cereals like Quaker Oatmeal Squares or Kelloggs Cracklin' Oat Bran tossed with any kind of nuts, chocolate chunks/chips or MM Peanuts, banana chips, raisins, whatever, and I'm happy and energized.

Well, I've recently discovered CHOCOLATE Chex Cereal!! MmMmMm....So I've created a mix to take to the Thanksgiving  family get-together.....(a good munchie for game time).....

.....and I've name it "Turkey Feed"!

Here's my recipe:  ( feel free to make substitutions that suit your family's taste of course)

14.25 oz. box  Chocolate Chex Cereal
10 oz. canister Planters Mixed Party Nuts
approx. 1/2 bag  Pretzel mini twists or thin sticks
approx. 3/4 bag Kraft Caramel Bits
~
11 oz. bag  Brachs Candy Corn
3 squares  Almond Bark, melted for drizzling
approx. 1/2 cup  Chocolate chips, melted for drizzling
~
Spread the first 4 ingredients out onto two large baking sheets and pop into a low (below 200 degree) oven to warm slightly....just so the caramel becomes softened.  You DON'T want it to completely melt down and/or cook.

Remove trays from oven.

Candy Corn....this is the "Turkey Feed" ingredient, haha, just sprinkle over top.

Melt almond bark in the micowave then spoon into a zipper style sandwich bag. Snip off the very corner of the bag and squeeze in a zig-zag pattern over the tray of mix. Fold/stir gently a few times just to blend a little but not completely coating the cereal mix. Then do the same with the chocolate chips.

Let Set (refrigerating helps to speed set up time)

Note: In the photo I had used Caramel ButterToffee Popcorn which made it waaay too sweet in my opinion. Plain popcorm may work but I fear it will get chewy so I've eliminated it completely.  Also; in the photo you will not see any pretzels as I didn't have any at the time, but I think this is a must-have ingredient, I'm definately not forgetting them next time.

I'm sharing here:

Serve Cookie Balls at your Next Tea Party

More like a truffle than a cookie in my opinion. Made with cream cheese and a package of sandwich cookies they are just too rich to eat more than a couple bites at a once. But, yes, you will be left craving another soon after.

I don't have an exact recipe but use one 8 ounce brick of cream cheese to a half package of Oreo sandwich cookies. Just crush the cookie very finely and smoosh in the softened cream cheese. Roll into bitesize balls and dip in melted almond bark.  You may wish to reserve a little crushed cookie to sprinkle on top. Refrigerate to set coating, then keep refrigerated until serving.

Who says you have to stop at Oreo?  There are other sandwich type cookies out there......Nutter Butter..........Lemon is a favorite at our house, although we found the flavor of the Lemon Cookie to be very mild so added a few drops of lemon extract

What will your favorite be?
